Get Involved

Everyone you see working at the museum is a volunteer. New volunteers are welcome to help in all aspects of running the museum. So whether you are looking to meet new people, gain experience, or would like to offer a specialist skill, we would be delighted to hear from you. For information of how to volunteer please call, email, or pop in.

As well as volunteering to man the visitor desk, there is plenty of scope to get involved in one or more specialist activities such as:

Cataloguing, marking objects and creating displays.

Document Transcriptions. We take many original ancient documents and transcribe them ready for our digital archive. Join the group and receive full training in how to handle and read old documents

Publications. The museum produces its own booklets on local topics of interest. All topics must be fully researched before our budding authors get the opportunity to express themselves in the written form.

Digital Archives. Maintaining and adding to our digital resources requires dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers to record and catalogue entries.

Object Research. The provenance and story of individual items reveal aspects of social history and people’s lives. We carry out detailed investigations and seek to enhance appreciation of objects through extra information.

Building Management
We need to manage every aspect of the fabric of our wonderful building

Help to organise Visits, Exhibitions & Talks, Fund raising activities and events, General interest events and help with many other unusual and inspiring activities

Working with local schools and interest groups

Publicity and Marketing
Promoting the museum and its activities to the town, the local area, different interest groups and even nationally, is a huge job.
There are many other groups including The Thame Museum Detectorists Club that works with local land-owners to scan for interesting and occasionally, valuable objects hidden under our very feet. The PAS Code of Conduct is followed at all events
