The Book of Notable Things

The Book of Notable Things‘ is a publication that has had many updates and reprints over the years. It was first published in 1579 and the most numerous reprint was in 1815. It is still in print today.

The copy on permanent display in the Museum is a First Edition from 1579, written in English by Thomas Lupton and draws on many other historical publications.

There are currently only six copies known – all of which are in major libraries in England and the USA and all of which are missing their front and back pages.

The donor is a Thame Resident who inherited the book from her grandmother. It is her wish that it be on display for all to see. Accordingly, it is placed on permanent display in the Tudor Room
