High Sheriff Private Viewing at Thame Museum
Amanda Ponsonby and her husband Rupert, Sir Ashley Ponsonby, former Lord Lieutenant of Oxfordshire, visited the Museum on 27th October for a private viewing, accompanied by Thame’s mayor, Cllr Ann Midwinter.
The current High Sheriff of Oxfordshire worked in Westminster for 14 years, first in the House of Commons for Sir Geoffrey Howe, then in the Political office.
Mrs Ponsonby was very impressed with the museum and she promised to come back to our museum soon and do her Christmas shopping. She was interested to hear how as a small independent museum we managed to keep going with staffing made fully of volunteers, and successfully reopen after 5 months of COVID-19 closure.
The High Sheriff is visiting every mayor in every town in Oxfordshire as part of her duties. Ann Midwinter, Thame Town Mayor, gave Amanda a guided tour of the Town Hall where she met staff and learnt about the role of the Town Council and about the wonderful community spirit that we have in Thame. The Mayor then took the High Sheriff around the market to meet some of the stall holders, followed by a visit to the Players Theatre and then onto our Museum.
