Research Project 2022

Your help is needed to plan for the future of the museum.

Thame Museum has been open since 2007 and we are now looking at how to develop it to meet the challenges of the next decade. In the past 15 years, Thame has become a very different place and we are now conducting research into what we should be doing next.

We need your help in shaping our offer for local families. We want to hear what you would like to see in your local museum.  We would like to find out what we are doing well and what might be done better.

We are working with Stephen Barker, a museum consultant who has recently been appointed by the trustees, to carry out audience development research, which will inform our future.

Firstly Could you take a few minutes to complete the questionnaire below (it doesn’t matter whether you have or have not actually visited Thame Museum before)

If you take part then you can enter into a prize draw worth £100 to spend at a local business of your choice.

Just click on ‘Sky the Sheep’ below to take part…
If you prefer, you can click on the QR code below

Secondly, there will be a series of Focus Groups taking place in February and March and we would like to invite you to take part

(you don’t need to do the questionnaire first)

The groups are aimed to engage people local to the museum from postcodes beginning OX9, OX39, HP17 and HP18 and who have either visited the museum, or have never visited the museum at all.

Four Focus Groups will be held in February and March 2022:

  • Local families with children, aged 0-11 years of age, that have never visited the museum.
  • Local families with children, aged 0-11 years of age, that have visited the museum at least once.
  • Local people, without children at home, aged 25 to 44 years old, who have never visited the museum, or have made only one visit.
  • Local people, without children at home, aged 45 to 64 years old, who have never visited the museum, or have made only one visit.

The Groups will be held at the museum. They are one off events lasting up to an hour and a half. Focus Groups are not only informative events for the researcher, they are also huge fun for those taking part.

For taking part, you will receive £20, a glass of wine and a brief tour of the museum. (NB : If we are unable to meet in person, then the groups will take part via Zoom. Full details will be provided.)

Do please encourage, family members, friends and neighbours to get involved.  (We are particularly looking to talk to those 45-64 years of age).

To take part in the focus groups please contact Stephen Barker either by phone or e-mail:     tel: (01280) 824877       E-mail: info@stephen-barker.co.uk

Thank you very much for your support in advance.
