Everyone you see working at the museum is a volunteer. Volunteers are essential to the success and promotion of the Museum in helping to enhance the visitor experience.
New volunteers are welcome to help in all aspects of running the museum, in a supportive, friendly environment . We provide training in all areas of the museum, all we require from you is energy and cheerful enthusiasm. So whether you are looking to meet new people, gain experience, or would like to offer a specialist skill, we would be delighted to hear from you. As well as volunteering for Front-of-House, there is plenty of scope to get involved in one or more specialist activities such as:Collections Cataloguing, marking objects and creating displays. Document Transcriptions. We take many original ancient documents and transcribe them ready for our digital archive. Join the group and receive full training in how to handle and read old documents
Publications. The museum produces its own booklets on local topics of interest. All topics must be fully researched before our budding authors get the opportunity to express themselves in the written form.Archives. Maintaining and adding to our digital resources requires dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers to record and catalogue entries. Object Research. The provenance and story of individual items reveal aspects of social history and people’s lives. We carry out detailed investigations and seek to enhance appreciation of objects through extra information. Building Management We need to manage every aspect of the fabric of our wonderful building Activities Help to organise Visits, Exhibitions & Talks, Fund raising activities and events, General interest events and help with many other unusual and inspiring activities Education/Outreach Working with local schools and interest groups Publicity and Marketing Promoting the museum and its activities to the town, the local area, different interest groups and even nationally, is a huge job.
